A designer’s guide to styling your home for Christmas

We recently invited Interior Designer, Nicola O'Mara into Seagull, one of our beautiful coastal getaways, to transform it into a festive haven. From elegant tablescapes to subtle seasonal touches, we share everything we learnt along the way.

Nicola’s festive touch brings cosy elegance to the living and dining spaces. The coffee table is styled with pillar candles in different heights, sprigs of dried berries and freshly baked goodies, to make it feel homely and inviting. The fireplace is simply dressed with a deep green garland and two tall candles for height. Nicola’s tip: use weighted hooks for stockings, no drilling required and they can be easily moved to shelves or window sills.

When it comes to the dinner table, Nicola’s advice is simple: look to nature. Foraging in your garden or local woodland is the easiest way to create a charming festive centrepiece. Twist together holly and ivy to run down the centre of the table, place a few stems in a glass vase to add height and texture and finish with a scattering of conkers from your winter walks for a touch of seasonal warmth.

And for the little ones, think small stockings at the end of beds, mugs ready for hot chocolate and a few wooden toys or ribbons tucked beneath the tree. It’s about keeping the magic alive with simple touches that make Christmas feel full of wonder.

The final touches are what bring everything together. A softly scented candle, warm lighting and a pile of cosy blankets. Wrap up to watch the sunset melt into the horizon and as the evening draws in, snuggle down for a relaxed, festive night at home.
